I’ve seen suggestions on the forums to either a copy-and-paste and move to maintain parallel lines, or b to use multiple strokes.

I think a won’t work for me because the two sides are not exactly identical particularly the splines , and b is too limited to do what I need here. Make the shield at first as one shape, divide it in the middle and fill the upper part with blue and the lower part with green.

The seam will be later hidden by the white and brown areas which are separate shapes. Before dividing see NOTE1 the shield make also 2 undivided copies. You need them later. Make the white and brown areas as a combination of brown shapes which have white strokes. Convert the white stroke finally to independent shape to be able to clip the parts with a copy of the shield outline. In the next example I use grey instead of white to make it visible here. Draw 2 rectangles with a stroke. Draw at first one, rotate it and make a copy.

Draw over the rectangles a shape which has the wanted spline stroke. They are all drawn in the left:. Subtract the curved shape from the combination of the rectangles. The result is in the left in the next image:. It makes the stroke a separate filled shape. It’s shown in the right, there’s no actual reason to move the shapes apart.

Beware moving them because they are practically impossible to get exactly placed again not fatal in this case because there’s plenty of overlap. Now the the white and brown shapes are separate. Use the undivided shield outlines to make Boolean intersections with white and brown shapes. NOTE1: Break the edge at 2 points. You can insert 2 new nodes to be used for this by double-clicking the node tool if none of the original nodes is in a good place.

Important Information Please note there is currently a delay in replying to some post. The few updates which have come down the line have focused on things like the app icon.

The developers have moved on to other projects, and it seems to me that for all intents and purposes, development on this software has been abandoned. I wouldn’t wish to speculate if this software will even be supported in a few years. So we’re left with an app which lacks some of the most fundamental vector editing tools. With the exception of skew, vectors cannot be distorted in any way including perspective and it even lacks a knife tool.

These are tools which are actually provided by many free editors. Furthermore, many tools are very poorly implemented. Convert to curves produces hilariously unusable results and things like Offset Path simply don’t exist. The developers themselves are notoriously unresponsive to please for further development.

Since going cross-platform there have been many reports of Designer’s instability and since the implementation of Apples Metal API.

Development seems to have ground to a halt on this app. Investing time and energy learning could be a waste of time as it may not be around in the future. I am very satisfied with the performance the look, style and usability of Affinity Designer I am also using the Affinity Photo and Publisher.

It has all the features and tools as Adobe Illustrator and then some more. I absolutely love it! Nothing that I can think of at the moment, all is rainbows and smiles after few years of using it.
